Reflective Beauty with Meaghan Gleeson

I can’t believe it’s taken me so long to share this with you all… I had a shoot almost a month ago now with an amazing team – our goal was to create some really cool edgy jewellery based imagery. We really weren’t shooting for long, we’d all had long days before we even started, but we came away with some really cool shots and I’m super happy with the results.

I felt like trying something new with the lighting on this shoot, and I’d seen a similar setup somewhere else before that I wanted to try to replicate. All I used for this was 2 lights, I had my main light which was just a bare bulb strobe with a medium grid on it placed in a standard butterfly lighting position, directly above and in front of the model and about a meter away, this would create a very hard contrasty looking light. From there I added a 43″ Octabox directly behind it, also in a standard butterfly light position to just fill in some of the shadows and create a slightly softer look. Of course this setup isn’t overly flattering to a model’s face in that it accentuates all the pores and blemishes, but I was lucky enough to be working with a model who has exceptional skin and a makeup artist that made her practically flawless.
