Now if you’re into travel or landscape photography then you would have definitely heard the name Elia Locardi, but you should ask the question…
Well that’s a great question and one that we are happy to quickly explore, you see when you’re tracking someone down on the internet to find out about them it’s pretty easy, but in real life, I’m sure Elia along with his wife Naomi are two of the most illusive people on the planet.
That’s because since 2009 the duo has been travelling the world to pursue the sights and experiences through their cameras. The official term Elia uses for this type of life style is ‘location independent,’ and translated into english for everyone else is it reads – ‘very jealous’!
Since being location independent since March 2012 Elia has visited more than 50+ countries and flown over one million miles. That’s a lot of plane food! In this time he’s shared most of his experiences on his popular travel blog called Blame The Monkey and some of the photos you can see over there are simply incredible.
Upon capturing these incredible scenes Elia then shares them across his vast network of social media platforms that includes an incredible gallery over on 500px. It’s worth mentioning Elia Locardi has an incredible following of around 2,569,587 (mostly drooling photographers – and yes we counted them all).
So, why the incredible following you might ask?
Well lets just say if you take incredible images like the ones above, then teach people your skills you’re bound to gain a following!
With that said, that’s exactly what Elia’s done over the years and more recently when he announced the Fujifilm sponsored Dream Photo Tours, which offers a series of high quality photo courses that also provide a unique life experience. It was an idea he dreamed up with his wife and good mate Ken Kaminesky, who also has a passion for teaching and travel photography. Here’s a short clip explaining what’s involved…
During the announcement of Dream Photo Tours, you may not know it, but Elia was in the midst of filming one of the most ambitious landscape projects the internet has seen to date. The project – if you haven’t heard of it already – is a cocktail of ideas born from a meeting with Fstoppers Founders, Lee Morris and Patrick Hall at a Photokina get together. The idea was to come up with a landscape photography course that would teach photographers everything they need to know. The process would see the filming team follow Elia across the globe for a total of 45 days.
“During this 45 day adventure, we are forcing Elia Locardi to share everything he knows about landscape, cityscape, and astro photography. When this tutorial is completed, you will not only learn about all the gear, scouting tips, composition techniques, and camera settings Elia uses on a daily basis, but you will also gain access to his RAW files as he walks you through the post processing on each image taken over the course of this tutorial.” – Fstoppers
There’s a pretty cool video that was filmed in Iceland that shows the sort of epic teaching locations you can expect when you sign up for the video course.
If you haven’t signed up already…what are you doing?? Now I imagine by now you’re probably getting a pretty good picture to who Elia is right?
Well, if you don’t know him by now we highly recommend you watch this great interview with the Senior Associate Editor from CNet – Lexy Savvides.
