When deciding to write about Nick Rains I was somewhat gob smacked at the extent of his photography credentials when conducting some online research. Having spent the last 30+ years in the photography business this Brisbane based photographer has done it all (with the exception of weddings). It’s because of his experience we extended an invite to him to come along as an instructor on the upcoming Fiji Photography Workshop.
With plenty of awards sitting tightly under his belt it’s no wonder his been crowned a ‘Master of Photography’ with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP). Not only has this prestigious title been awarded, but to date Rains has clocked up accolades from the Australian Geographic Magazine for being the Photographer of the Year back in 2001 (there’s no doubt his Honours degree in Zoology helped with that one) and more recently the Travel Photographer of the Year at the Australian Institute of Professional Photographers (AIPP) awards in 2014.
On top of his daily life, Rains was brought on by Leica as an Ambassador and Principle Instructor to be in charge of educating the masses at Leica Akademie Australia. Rains is no stranger to working with brands, as in the past his represented products for the likes of Canon, Ilford, Inca and many others. Here’s a few of his videos from recent times.
If you ever get to met Nick Rains, you should count yourself lucky, his knowledge of cameras, workflow and printing comes highly recommended. Photographic icon, Ilford has even made him a Master due to his in-depth knowledge and experience when it comes to presenting images for competition, and while we’re on the subject of competition I should also mention Rains is a National Judge at the annual Australian Professional Print Awards (APPA) *ahem* I also hear he like chocolate and wine for those who might be entering ;)
Nick Rains’s experience and career didn’t happen over night. In the early days, way back when disco was in, the then emerging photographer started out photographing bands. Since these early days of following bands his gift has led him onto working for well-respected publications including TIME, Australian Geographic, Outback, Better Photography, Sports Illustrated and the BBC. These days Rains spends his time educating photographers around the world through his workshops and articles found in well established photography magazines, online and in ebooks.
Here at F Stop Lounge we know being educated by a Master Photographer is a winning step on the road to becoming a better photographer. That’s why we’re very excited, Nick Rains will be joining Benjamin Von Wong, Tony Hewitt, Elia Locardi, Colby Brown, Varina & Jay Patel and Michael Fletcher to help educated you into becoming a more well-rounded photographer and videographer in all fields of photography.
Along with Nick Rains and the rest of the instructors, we invite you to take a look at the Photography Workshop Page and put down a deposit today to ensure you secure your place on this once in a life time experience.
